Hello, my name is Pat Gifford. I lived in England for forty years and grew up with a variety of dogs owned by my parents. The last breed my mother acquired was a pug, which all the family loved.
My favourite breed at that time was the German Shepherd and when I left home, I showed them. However, as I got older I found I could no longer run with them so I changed to the Collie Rough. Once again, after a couple of years, decided that the grooming and the running with them became too much. I remember my mother's pug, which had so much character and was a beautiful dog, and decided that this was the breed for me, as they had always held a place in my heart.
I will always be greatful to the Dunn's who so generously helped me to get started by allowing me to acquire Troycole Lady Bell (Bella). After much sucess with Bella I purchased two more pugs, Ch Troycole Law N Order (Cody) and Ch Troycole American Maid (Tara). Cody was a champion at 10 months of age retired on over 800 points at the age of three.
I am greatful to Julie Gotch for allowing me to use Homer (Am Ch & Aust Ch Albelarm Legal Eagle (Imp USA)) on Bella who produced two great champions under the Dearnlea prefix.
What is most important to me is the health, happiness and comfort of my pugs and this takes priority over their showing and breeding activities. My aim is for a lovable temperament, soundness and true pug type, multi in parvo (a lot in a little).
Now a little information about me. I arrived in Australia in 1977 and in the years ahead I took both Level One and Level Two R.N.S.W.C.C. instructors course in obedience as I really do believe that if you're going to have dogs you should know as much as you can about their behaviour patterns.plus know how to care for them and socialize them.
In conculsion, I would like to share with you the following verse:
A Pug's your pal for always, through cloudy days or fine
He'll lie stretched out beside you and curly tail unwind
Perhaps your world's gone haywire and things seem far from fair
To him, it matters little, as long as you are there
This chubby bundle's waiting, in failure or success
And from the warmth of welcome, great wealth you can posses
He's the one of life's great treasures, whose value is untold
For every pug is minted from fine and purest gold
